My shortlist for Event Photographer of the Year 2016 entries

The bit you think will be hard - finding a few photos out of an annual haul of many tens of thousands - isn’t that hard if you review what you shoot every week WITHOUT FAIL and mark the ones with potential. It requires a calendar reminder and an iron will to give it 20 minutes every Sunday night, but it means nothing gets lost. The bit that’s actually hard is trying to work out which photos “capture the essence of an event” - far more subtle than just technically adept, or creatively interesting. That’s why I like these awards - it requires a lot of thought about what it is I actually do, as an event photographer.
